4 plants (Yarrow, Monkshood, Sweet Flag, and Spring Adonis) and their healing properties
Yarrow as a plant has healing properties to help rid anorexia, flatulence, indigestion, diarrhea, billiary colic, hemorrhoids, menstrual disorders, healing of wounds, and ulcers… The ancient Greeks greatly valued this medicinal herb and named it after the heroic warrior Achilles. Yarrow also has a byname – millefolium “a thousand leaves”. Yarrow is commonly found on roadsides, in meadows, and on dry, sunny slopes. It also grows in the mountains, sometimes with a pink or pale lilac color. (found in europe, north america, north asia, and southern australia)
Monkshood has healing properties to help rid arthritis and fibrositis, sciatica, and neuralgia… Found in mountain regions it is one of the most poisonous of all plants, so medicinal applications rely on homeopathic experts. Other varieties are the yellow aconite and the blue english. The shape of the monkshood as a deep blue flower resembles the helmet of a medieval knight, and one of the old names for this plant was helmet-flower. It grows up to 150 cm high and the root has the highest concentration of principles (alkaloids). To obtain these the plant is cultivated in the Balkans, Spain, and Italy. (found in europe, north asia, and north america)
Sweet Flag has healing properties to help rid loss of appetite, indigestion, biliary upsets, exhaustion and weakness…. An aquatic plant mostly found in ditches with stagnant water. The underground shoot may reach a length of 1.5 meters with long roots growing downward from the roots. It has swordlike leaves and the tip of the underground shoot produces a flowering stem bearing a solid cylindrical spike 10 cm. in length covered with small greenish-yellow flowers. The underground root contains the fragrant, bitter volatile oil, holding the healing properties. (found in southeast asia, europe, east africa, and eastern to northern america)
Spring Adonis, Pheasants Eye has healing properties to help rid low blood pressure, cardiac insufficiency, and functional heart complaints…. This Adonis among plants is rare and protected. The downy flower buds on their short, upright stems first appear in April, on sunny rock valley slopes. They open as soon as the sun appears, always facing the light. The bright yellow star shaped flowers have a silky sheen and are 4-7 cm in diameter. The pale green, finely divided featherly leaves with their thread like tips do not appear until the stems have reached a height of 20-30 cm. Ants distribute the tiny nut like seeds in autumn. The active principles in the whole plant have an action on the heart similar to Strophanthus. Adonis cannot be cultivated. It is frequently used for medicinal purposes in eastern europe. It is an important homeopathic remedy, yet is very poisonous, so only experts in homeopathic knowledge of its uses should handle its distribution for medicinal purposes. (found in southeastern europe, west asia, and northern north america)
